Otark is a marketplace for Power Purchase Agreements, the long-term contracts companies sign to buy renewable energy directly from the people producing it. The traditional process is slow and painful, lawyers, spreadsheets, and five to twelve months of back-and-forth before anything gets signed. Otark compresses that to under nine weeks by pre-negotiating standard contracts and matching buyers to the right sellers on the platform.

On top of the marketplace there is Green SPOT, a real-time trading surface for day-ahead and intraday renewable power, and a free load-profile analyzer that takes a company’s consumption curve and tells them which PPAs actually fit. The platform already sits between 160+ sellers and 120+ buyers, with names like BioNTech, Vodafone, Infineon, RWE, and Vattenfall on the customer side.

My brother Simon works on the Frankfurt team, so I have had a front-row seat to the product for a while. It is also one of the more interesting pieces of infrastructure I know of in the European energy transition: the cheapest way to decarbonise an industrial buyer is usually a PPA, and the friction in signing one is a big part of why more of them don’t get signed.
